Das Racist – Fake Patois (unofficial video)
Speaking of those crazy Das Racists, here’s an unofficial, but officially hilarious, video I found over at Dallas Penn for Das Racist’s “Fake Patois.” Apparently the visuals are from an old Haitian Soul Train-ish show. Nice.
Das Racist versus the afterparty
Das Racist wins, naturally.
Just came across some footage from the Das Racist fellas’ afterhours show in Seattle a few weeks back, courtesy of Sportn’ Life mastermind DeVon Manier. Good times!
Das Racist – Shut Up Dude
Aw yeah. Shut up dude, the long-awaited mixtape from the homies Das Racist dropped official-like today. And it’s that good good! It’s only fitting that after a long weekend of good times with those dudes during their stay in Seattle, we’re able to spread their latest, and to date greatest (only?), offering.
At 19 tracks long, it covers a lot of ground, from the redonk openning of Who’s That Brown to nuggets, remixes, and goodies galore.
There have been some bad links floating around, but we’ve got that good one. Hear that internet? GOOD LINK FOR DOWNLOAD. Bam.

*not from tonight's show. duh
i just got home from the 2nd night of blue scholars’ three night home stand at the showbox. sabzi and geo are probably rocking the house right now (i’d have stayed, but an illness is bringing me down early tonight). considering this site has given some love (and helped put them up and show them around while they’re here) to das racist, who were on the bill tonight , i wanted to write a short review of their set. mainly, they killed it. it was a short set–30 minutes tops–but coming out of south by southwest, where they rocked a mess of shows, it was a hella tight 30 minutes. i wish i could have heard the vocals a little more clearly (these guys are clever, after all), but the beats were crazy hot. like nuclear hot. surface of the sun hot. too bad they’re only rocking one night in the city, and also too bad that the crowd wasn’t giving them the love they deserved, though some absolutely were. i wonder what the crowd would have done if they knew it was sabzi under the gorilla mask. this show definitely makes me eager to hear their mixtape (coming soon!), and hope that they can make it back to seattle real soon.
Last Night’s Afterparty part deux
Who doesn’t love an afterparty? Good times. Remember: Team Das Racist tonight at Members Only, and File Jerks, WD4D, Tang & Toast, Gordon Voidwell and special guests tomorrow at Moe Bar. Lock in!
New Das Racist – Who’s that Brown
Those Das Racist fellas are currently killing the scene down in Austin. They’re on the verge of releasing their new mixtape Shut Up, Dude, through a combo of Mishka and their own label, Greedhead. In addition to the handful of DR songs that have been floating around the webs, another one just popped up on the list – Who’s That Brown – off the new mixtape.
Yes, it samples that one line from Tribe’s Scenario, but flips it, funks it, and throws some dirty ass synth on top. Blaow! UPDATE: Just figured out that your dude Sabarillo Pellegrino, aka Sabzi of Blue Scholars produced the damn thing. If this song is any indication of what’s to come from DR x Sabzi collaborations, we’re in for some good good times.

Before there was Das Racist, there was… KOOL A.D.?
UPDATE: I am officially a terrible journalist. In fact, I’m not even a journalist. Turns out the KOOL A.D. aka Victor Vazquez Zoot Fantastic project isn’t an older thang thang, but is in fact brand new and fresh off the presses. I am officially an asshole. Continue, and download Zoot Fantastic.
You may know Victor Vazquez as the hairier of the dudes in Das Racist. Fair enough. Well, before Das Racist was in the picture (I think – trying to confirm some dates via the interwebs), Victor rolled solo under the KOOL A.D. moniker. Dap, aka Ashok Kondabolu aka the Hypeman’s Addendum aka the third leg of the Das Racist stool, just put a link to an early KOOL A.D. EP, Zoot Fantastic.
It’s a short drop, five songs (one running nine minutes long, damn son), and it’s not what you would call easy listening – high concept is one possible label (and if so, daddy must have it – h/t to Hari Kondabolu). Two cuts on it, Chalupa la Cheapa and Who This, are official cuts, and the other tracks are solid and offer something to digest, whether or not you would use it as a saturday night soundtrack. Plus, the whole thing is produced by the homie Lil’ Ben, out of Oakland, CA.
Perhaps think of this as a portrait of the artist as a young man. Good shit, and from what we’ve heard from DR and more, it’s getting better.
Rainbow in the dark
It’s the homies Das Racist, back at it again. And when we say “the homies” we’re actually saying that we’re friends with one dude, not all three dudes. And when we say “we” we don’t actually mean to be pulling a royally assholish royal We. That’s all.
Anyway, check the video. It dropped in December, so it’s not the freshest and cleanest. Luckily we’ve also got DR’s feature story they wrote for the Village Voice here as well. And THAT is fresh off the cyberpress. Can We state again how fun it is to have party music + smart dudes? Yeah, that’s cool.
MinorityFest – December 11th @ Glasslands Gallery
For you New York types out there, you have absolutely no excuse to miss MinorityFest, going down this Friday at Glasslands Gallery (289 Kent Ave in Brooklyn). Yes, it sounds terrible, but in actual fact it’s awesome. Organized by the unstoppable duo of Hari and Ashok Kondabolu, comedian and musician respectively, the event is multi-faceted: a panel talking about race and racism in the popular culture, comedy by actually funny comedians, live performances by NY It-kids Das Racist and Gordon Voidwell, and late-night DJ throwdowns by the homie and Blue Scholars/Common Market wunderkind Sabzi.
Basically, you should be there. Let’s be real. Go.
